The Evolution Of Oral Tradition In Mountain... →
nprmusic:
Mountain ballads have been a part of American mountain culture since the earliest English and Scottish settlers moved there more than 200 years ago. They were passed down through the oral tradition, but that tradition is close to extinct in the U.S. Fortunately, young generations have found new ways to learn the centuries-old ballads of their ancestors.
Laurin was part of my group...

Nan Goldin's Best Shots
A really cool post about Nan Goldin and her favorite shots. People love her or hate her work. She popularized the snapshot aesthetic while covering her friends’ lives and her own. The whole article can be found at:

I also really enjoyed her answers to the following prompts at the bottom of the article.

My Transition From Intern To Temp
I love NPR. I love the stories that reporters produce and the shows on the radio. I really enjoy the website that offers a variety of blogs and some web-only content while supporting radio pieces. I am excited that I get to be the photo person for the radio.
I have been a temporary worker at NPR for about two weeks now and it’s been great. My whole internship was great because there was a good...
NPR: Hurricane Irene Hits The East Coast Gallery →
Check out the gallery I have been working on this morning. I tried to keep it amusing for people not on the east coast. There are lots of good resources on the site for all of things you need to know about Hurricane Irene.

New Picture Show Post
You can check out a new post I wrote for The Picture Show here. I have been temping at NPR for over a week and today we experienced a pretty big earthquake, but it hasn’t scared me off from photo editing. It’s fun seeing what Flickr users are posting and seeing regular contributors progress.
If you have the time and are interseted in possibly being featured on The Picture Show, I...
Intern Edition!
http://www.npr.org/internedition/sum11/
This is what the interns have been working on this summer, outside of their internships. There are some great stories, and if you have 27 minutes to kill, you should watch the premiere show.
Also, if you have time, check out an audio slideshow that I did for Kathleen Schuster’s radio piece, “Keeping The Faith, In German.”

Intern Portraits
I have been the NPR Intern Edition Blog Photo Editor for a few weeks now and it usually meant cropping a couple of reporter photos and whipping up a few captions. The past week I have been photographing interns to accompany their “Intern Insights,” a series on the blog. I tried to mix up the “intern at the desk” photo as much as possible, but most people, including me,...

First Day at NPR
Today I started my internship as the Digital News Picture and Multimedia Desk Intern at National Public Radio in Washington, DC. I am a huge NPR fan to say the least and I found myself smiling when I saw the NPR logo in the hallways as I was touring the building. I still can’t believe I’m here.
My internship is for photo editing, which involves the two other interns and me doing photo...

Samantha Lott is an average biology student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This video is a profile of her accepting her nerdiness and finding a place where she can express it freely.
This was my final project for my Advanced Multimedia Class with Wes Pope. It was a great class and I learned a lot more about audio, video and storytelling. It was by far the best class I took at RIT.

Sending out Applications
I just sent out my first application for an internship this summer. I have decided to apply for photo editing internships primarily. I want to do more multimedia, but I have to practice a lot more before I can expect to get paid. Photo editing seems to be a better fit for me since I keep going out to photograph and coming back with OK stuff. When I see other people’s work, I can talk about...
