Cosplay
This was a portrait project that I created last quarter for my Community News Publication class. Cosplay is an activity where anime and video games fans dress in costume as characters, occasionally acting out scenes, but generally acting partially as themselves and as the character. Most commonly seen at anime and comic conventions.
There is a large number of people that cosplay at RIT and my photos are a sampling of cosplayers in their home environments. I chose photos that reflect a moment where the person is dressed as the character but revealing a bit about his or her own personality. I was inspired by Elena Dorfman’s body of work, Fandomania.
The following is a list of more complete captions for each photo:
1. Margaret Barlow wears her Daniel costume from the video game, “Amnesia: The Dark Descent”.
2. Damian Naranjo is dressed as Ragna the Bloodedge from the arcade game, BlazBlue.
3. Jennifer Gillette wears her Prussia costume from the anime, “Axis Powers Hetalia”.
4. Lauren Caberara is dressed as the Engineer from the video game, “Team Fortress 2”.
5. Matt Monasch is dressed as Dr. Franken Stein from the anime, “Soul Eater”.
6. Polyna Kim is dressed as Klavier Gavin from the video game, “Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney”.
7. Margaret Barlow is dressed as the witch bride from the video game, “Left 4 Dead”.
8. Samantha Lott is wears her Jedi costume from “Star Wars”.
