1. First Day at NPR

Today I started my internship as the Digital News Picture and Multimedia Desk Intern at National Public Radio in Washington, DC. I am a huge NPR fan to say the least and I found myself smiling when I saw the NPR logo in the hallways as I was touring the building. I still can’t believe I’m here.

My internship is for photo editing, which involves the two other interns and me doing photo research, selection and toning for images that accompany NPR stories on NPR.org. My department is responsible for most of the photos seen on the site. I was looking through photos on AP and Getty and quickly remembered how much I enjoy looking at photographs all day. I like searching through hundreds and thousands of photos to find the one that tells the story the best.

I am still orienting myself, along with the 50 other interns, to the building, navigating the wacky stairs and elevators, memorizing the names of all the important people I met, learning how various systems work and even finding water fountains.  Hopefully, in the next few days all of the facts and knowledge we acquired will sink in as we settle into our internships and eventually, Intern Edition. This is what last summer’s interns worked on in addition to their internships. I can’t wait to start and help out in any way that I can.

In short, I am very excited to start my internship and I think that excitement is going to carry me through the entire summer.
